Update on RWB Richard K. Yoho posted
5/30/10
HI! Thought it was time I sent an update on Dick's surgery, etc. He
underwent open
heart surgery 5/17. He had the aorta
valve replace with a pig valve. Oink Oink!! He did well
in the hospital, progressed as planned. Came home 5/22. Did well
Sunday. Then, on Monday late in the day, his blood
pressure dropped and he went into an irregular rhythm. Took
him by ambulance to Clarion Hospital, given amiodarone to get the
heart into a normal rhythm. Took about 10 mins of the med to convert the
heart to a normal rhythm. He then went down to Shadyside and was
admitted there. Rhythm stayed normal and we brought him home yesterday.
Things seem to be going good at this point.
We would like to thank everyone for the many cards and prayers. It
was all greatly appreciated by Dick and me.
Thanks to all. Ronna.

2010, at Briarfield of the Ridge in Mineral Ridge.
John was born June 17, 1920, in Brookfield, a son of Orland Edward and
Mary Virginia Marshall McGill.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II, Carrier
Aircraft Service Unit (CASU-22). He installed and tested various aircraft
catapult systems on various class ships of the Navy. So, his family says, he
has been slinging it for years!
He worked for Johns Manville in Milwaukee after being discharged from the
Navy, then for Williamson Co., retiring in 1975, before becoming involved in
sports car racing.
John and Marvin Drucker formed Steel Cities International Raceway, which
later became Nelson Ledges Road Course. He held the title of general manager
from 1962 to 2004. Among the many awards he had, in 1970, along with Grover
Griggs, he was awarded for the innovation of the tire wall, which is now
used at many race tracks around the world.
Although he could be a bit of a curmudgeon, he had a heart of gold. He
would "take in strays," so to speak, earning the nickname Father
John's Home for Wayward Boys. John would take anyone who was out of work or
needed a place to stay under his wing.
He was a 50-year member of Unity Masonic Lodge #12 Ravenna and a
member of the Loyal Order of Moose.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda (Ken) Heller of Denver and Kerrie
(Bryan) Bartzi of Warren; sons, Darryl B. (Joyce) Lane of Warren, Kevin Lane
of New York City and Jon Scott (Holly) Lane of Cortland; and four
grandchildren, Kacee Heller, Jacob Lane, Steven Lane and Abbey Lane. He also

Donald
K. Boyee, 99, of Girard departed this life on Jan. 4, 2010. He was
born at home in Henry County, Ohio January 11, 1990. He was the oldest
son of Christian and Hettie (Shumaker) Boyee. As a small boy he
witnessed the Great Flood of 1913. Don learned to play the harmonica
while bringing in the cows on the family farm. He bought his first
car, a model A Ford, at age 14 to drive to High School in Defiance.
One of his first jobs was hand-drilling holes for an electrician. Don
attended colleges in 3 states. He earned his BA in Ed. at Youngstown
College in 1935; his Masters in Ed. at the University of Pittsburgh in
1949. Mid-career Don enlisted in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He
served in the US, England, France, and Germany from age 32 to 36. He
achieved the rank of Captain. He married Eileen Brown June 6, 1948.
They raised four children. Don enjoyed all of his teaching
experiences, but his greatest love was Maple Ave. School with GHS a
close second. His family was raised on stories of baseball, football,
and volleyball contests against the other grade schools. As GHS
principal, Don established and supervised dances after home football
games. This was for fun and to keep the students from being too rowdy
in town. He seemed to have an innate sense of students' character and
what they needed to be helped in life. Upon retiring from 40 years in
education at age 61, Don sold cars for the next ten years. Through the
decades well into his 90's, Don remained quite active. He was a
skilled woodworker and well known in the neighborhood for giving
handmade toys to the children. He also sold at craft fairs. He taught
classes for his daughter and granddaughter when he was 89. Don mowed
his own lawn to age 95. He enjoyed golfing and playing pool with some
buddies to age 98. Don taught and/or was principal in Mineral Ridge
from 1931 – 1934, Negley from 1934 – 1936, Maple Ave. from
1936-1942 and 1946 – 1955, GHS from 1955 – 1971. Don was a member
of Phi Delta Kappa, William FarrMasonic Lodge #672, Kiwanis Club,
Girard Public Library Board, Boy Scout Counselor, Girard First United
Methodist Church, taught Sunday School and composed a hymn. During his
life Don acquired expertise in many areas. His talents included art,
painting, poetry, car mechanics, electrical, woodworking, home
improvements, innovations, and upholstery. He had worked on telephone
poles, built a house, single-handedly put on a slate roof, worked in
the steel mills, and had run the summer school programs. He made
furniture, clocks, doll houses, and too many items to mention. He
loved: to dance to the sounds of the Big Bands, cars, Lawrence Welk, a
good joke, to watch kids have fun, to recite a funny riddle, and
continued to entertain all with the harmonica. Don and Eileen tried
their best to instill character, values, and integrity in their
children. They led by example. Don liked people of all ages and
enjoyed doing what made others happy. He often said, "I want to
do what you want to do." He is remembered by friends even into
his last years as an intelligent, kind, soft-spoken gentlemen with a
warm smile. Don is survived by his sister Mildred Austermiller of
Ayersville; his children: Donald M. (Darlene) of Woodstock, GA.,
William F. (Phyllis) of Vandalia, Mary K. of McDonald, Janice E. (Dan)
Stevens of Girard; his grand children Katie Boyee, Jennifer and Steven
Boyee, Andrew & Erin Stevens, and many nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by his wife Eileen, in 2007, and his brother
Clifton. Heartfelt gratitude to Alice Stoudt, the caregivers from Home
Instead; Maryann Campolito, Lauri Loibl, Patty Stellmar, Barb Ullom;
the entire staff at Victoria House, Director Danielle Russo and Ad.
Asst. Carol Lucurell. The above were invaluable in making Don's final
years so very comfortable; filled with such joy, contentment, and
safety. Any monetary donations may be given to "Great
Beginnings" at the First United Methodist Church in Girard, where
Don's donated toys are still used by the kids, or to the church
itself. Services will be held on Friday at 11:00am at Girard First
United Methodist Church where visitation will be held on Thursday at
Blackstone Funeral Home from 4-7.
William Farr Lodge #672 will hold a
Masonic Funeral Service at 7:00pm.

Update on RWB David Rich Niles McKinley Lodge

Below is an update from RWB David Leifer
Hi Ron,
Just
thought I'd send you a little memo update on Dave:
I
visited Dave Rich today at CCF, and he is looking fairly well. He said
that his pain is getting less, but he still requires the IV pain med drip.
His room is no longer freezing cold and he is no longer quarantined. He
has been moved to a to "A
Room with a View", it certainly is better than the previous view
of a brick wall. Spoke with Dave for a while, but he tires easily,
his sprits are good considering all that he had done. They are still
waiting on the results of the tests.
I
reassured him that we were all pulling for him, and that he is in all
of our prayers.

Rootstown
beating victim dies: Richard Lowther paralyzed after robbery, attack; 4
suspects may face new charges
Mike
Sever
about

By
Mike Sever
Record-Courier
staff writer
A
Rootstown man who was paralyzed after an attack and robbery at his home
earlier this month died at 6:20 a.m. Thursday at Akron City Hospital .
Richard
A. Lowther, 68, was attacked July 2 at his Tallmadge Road home by people
looking for money. He was severely beaten and left paralyzed from the chest
down, with limited use of his arms.
In
recent days Lowther was reported to be rallying. He had been off sedation
for about a week after pneumonia-related complications followed surgery to
repair his broken and dislocated neck. He was on a breathing machine at the critical
care unit of the hospital earlier this week.
An
autopsy was performed Thursday morning at the Summit County Medical
Examiner’s office. The cause of death is pending further examination.
Four
people have been charged in connection with the attack and robbery. They
are: Jodi L. Fetty, 27,
of Diamond; Darrell L. Dukes, 22, of 3075 S.R. 59, Ravenna; Jonathan H.
Dukes, 23, of 3865 Blake Ave., Ravenna; and Cortez M. Oliver, 20, of
Fairlawn.
All
four remain in jail on $1 million bonds.
A grand
jury indicted the four suspects on one count each of felonious
assault, a second-degree felony; aggravated robbery, a first-degree
felony; and aggravated burglary, also a first-degree felony.
The
first-degree felony
charges carry a potential sentence of three to 10 years in jail. The felony
assault charge carries a potential sentence of two to eight years in
prison.
The
four may now face more serious charges.
Portage
County Sheriff David
Doak said he was going to meet with the Portage
County prosecutor “to discuss where we’re going to go with it
from here.”
Asked
if more severe charges could result, Doak said “If I have anything to say
about it, there will be.”
Portage
County Prosecutor Victor Vigluicci said it is up to the Portage
County grand jury
to determine what those charges might be.
“We
will be asking the grand jury to reconsider the charges,” Vigluicci said
Thursday morning.
According
to the sheriff’s office investigation, Fetty approached Lowther’s home
at about 2:30 a.m. July 2. She told Lowther she was having car trouble and
asked to use the phone.
Oliver
and Jonathan Dukes then assaulted Lowther before stealing a collection of
commemorative state quarters and fleeing in a vehicle driven by Darrell
Dukes, according to the sheriff’s office.
A
neighbor spotted Lowther lying on the ground in his front yard after the
suspects had fled.
Deputies
arrested Fetty when she tried to turn in 740 of the quarters — a total
$185 — later that day at the Ravenna Giant Eagle. Fetty’s arrest led
authorities to the three men allegedly involved.
A
fund has been set up to help pay for Lowther’s medical treatments.
Donations can be made at any area KeyBank branch to the “Richard Lowther
Medical Fund,” or donations can be mailed to the Richard Lowther Medical
Fund, PO Box 150 , Rootstown , OH , 44272 .
Lowther
was active in several area social clubs. He was a member of Parents Without
Partners, the Ravenna Moose Lodge, the Kent Masonic
Lodge, the Kent Canadian
Club, the Kent Coin Club and the United Methodist Church of Kent.

Victim of Willoughby house fire dies
Thursday,
April 2, 2009
By
Michael C. Butz
MButz@News-Herald.com
Six
days after a house fire covered 40 percent of her body with third-degree
burns, Marilyn Poole succumbed to her injuries. Poole, 61, was pronounced
dead at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday by officials at MetroHealth Medical Center in
Cleveland, where she'd been since last Thursday's fire in Willoughby.
"It's devastating," said William Poole, her husband of eight
years. "We had a great marriage." She had been in critical
condition since arriving at the hospital, and according to her son, Richard
Kennedy, was taken off life support Friday.
She also suffered from lung cancer, which recently spread to her lymph nodes
and stomach. The cancer, which had reduced her weight to a mere 65 pounds,
was first diagnosed as terminal in 2006. "All of us, the entire family,
had prepared ourselves for that kind of death," her husband said.
"But none of us had prepared ourselves for this."
The family, most of whom live in Virginia, drove to Cleveland last week
following the fire, William Poole said.
"Her grandson, Robert, and his girlfriend drove up from Virginia
Thursday night, moved into a motel on the west side of Cleveland, near
MetroHealth, and stayed by her bedside until she died earlier this
morning," he said. "I've never seen that kind of dedication from a
24-year-old boy, but he sure did love his grandma."
The blaze destroyed the Center Street home that the Pooles shared, but not
before the 70-year-old pulled his wife out of the burning house.
"I never even thought about it. I wasn't even conscious of what I was
doing," he said. "Instinct just took over. Then, after I got
settled down enough to realize the seriousness of everything, it was just
shock. "I have this visual recollection of it, and that's just
horrible," he said. "The visual is still very, very clear."
His wife very much enjoyed the company of the couple's dog, Bonnie, a
chihuahua-Jack Russell terrier mix, he said. "She loved that dog,"
he said. "For the last couple of months, when she was in a lot of pain
(due to cancer), that dog would sit right next to her."
Though some water-damaged photo albums and melted-shut briefcases were
salvaged, the house will have to be demolished, he said.
However, he hopes to rebuild there and thus remain in the
neighborhood. "That night (of the fire), I went over to the house and I
was greeted by probably 20 neighbors — some of whom I'd never met — who
offered to open their doors to me," he said. "Every day now, I take Bonnie for a walk in the old
neighborhood, and every time there's a neighbor who comes out to talk to
us."
While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, William Poole said
he's thankful for the work of the Willoughby Fire Department. "They've
got a good crew there, and Willoughby is lucky to have them," he said.

Bro. William Poole Triandria Lodge #780 House
Total Loss In Fire
posted 3/29/09
A Willoughby house that was engulfed by flames late Thursday morning was
considered a total loss by early afternoon. Firefighters from four
departments battled the blaze at 4535 Center St. for several hours,
Willoughby Fire Chief Alan Zwegat said. “When we arrived, flames were
showing from two floors,” he said. “Flames were (also) showing on three
sides of the structure.”
The residents, William and Marilyn Poole, both believed
to be at least 60 years old, were not home when safety crews arrived on
scene, Zwegat said. The chief confirmed, however, that each suffered burns
as a result of the fire. “Mr. Poole pulled (his wife) outside of the
house, and he immediately drove her to the hospital,” Zwegat said. “As
fate would have it, they passed us on our way to the fire.” Poole drove
his wife to LakeWest Hospital in Willoughby. She was subsequently flown by
helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, where she was listed
in critical condition as of Thursday evening. Poole was treated and
released, said Zwegat, adding Poole took the family dog with him when he
drove his wife to the hospital, likely saving its life.
The first call was received at 11:34 a.m., said Zwegat, explaining an
off-duty firefighter who was driving through the neighborhood at the time
was the first to alert authorities.
Willoughby Mayor David Anderson arrived at the house shortly after the first
wave of firefighters. “It was more engulfed than any house I’ve seen in
a while,” said Anderson, who regularly goes to the scenes of fires in
Willoughby. “When I come out to the scene, they usually have it pretty
much knocked down, but this was well-engulfed.” The blaze was brought
under control at 2:46 p.m., and it’s believed neighboring houses suffered
no damage.
After the fire was extinguished, Willoughby’s chief building inspector
determined the house was too unsafe for firefighters to re-enter, Zwegat
said. The fire chief further explained the house, which he speculated was
built 75 to 80 years ago, is expected to be condemned.
